The Great Cardboard Boat Race - United Way of Elkhart County

The Great Cardboard Boat Race - United Way of Elkhart County

Our AP and AR departments recently participated in the United Way of Elkhart County's annual Cardboard Boat Race. For several weeks, LCI AP and AR teams worked together to craft boats made entirely of cardboard, duct tape and polyurethane in an effort to successfully paddle across the pond at the LaSalle Bristol building in Elkhart and raise money for the United Way. United Way of Elkhart County began the event about eight years ago as a way to launch its fundraising campaigns each year. This year, the event raised more than $40,200. The money raised in Elkhart County stays in the community and is used to advance the United Way's mission to provide services and support for working families in the focus areas of education, income and health.

Backpacks were filled with supplies such as pencils, glue, erasers, markers, crayons, rulers and more. Special thanks to the LCI Cares Committee for a $500 donation and to EHS Safety Coordinator, Rick Frye, and the New Paris EMS Department for donating $500 to the cause.

Toys for Tots - Lippert GM Shaves Beard

For the past two years, employees at Plant 209 in Chester, South Carolina have participated in the annual Toys for Tots toy drive. This year, LCI VP Jason Falk challenged Plant 209 General Manager, Eric Story, to shave his beloved 2-year-old beard if plant employees raised more than $300 in addition to donated toys. Giving employees a tight deadline in which to raise the funds, they crushed the $300 goal and raised $772 in just two days. Eric Story was forced to part ways with his beard and has agreed to keep the beard off though the end of the year and will not allow more than two days of growth to accumulate before shaving until then. Employees at Plant 209 continue to impress, keeping pace with their 100 percent participation rate for each Toys for Tots drive they've been a part of. Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps that provides toys to less fortunate children for Christmas and other holidays.
