Coatings Plant

Coatings Plant

The Lippert coatings plant is an ISO 9001-certified facility that provides de-rusting, coating, painting and value-added services to a wide range of industries, including automotive, EV, military, agricultural, heavy machinery, recreational vehicle and so much more!

All Coating Capabilities Under One Roof

Lippert offers high-quality de-rusting, pickling, E-Coating, powder coating, top coating, CARC (Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings) and value-added services — all completed within 3-5 days at our 244,000 sq. ft. facility.

De-rusting & Pickling

This process uses an acid-based, phosphoric solution to remove light surface rust and laser, mill and welding stains from heat treatment on products. Our team uses a phosphoric acid bath, water rinse and an application of water-soluble, rust-preventative product.

E-Coating

With the largest non-captive E-Coating system in North America, we can accommodate products up to 53' long, 9.5' deep and 65" wide. We use an 8-stage zinc phosphate pre-treatment cleaning system that meets most automotive and military specifications.

Powder Coating

Our team is able to offer a wide variety of powder coating color options and can accommodate products up to 10' long, 5' deep and 2' wide. We also use a state-of-the-art, NT-1, 5-stage cleaning process on all products.

Top Coating & CARC

Meeting military DOD standards, this top-coating process provides products with camouflage, as well as resistance to chemical warfare agents and harsh chemical substances used to decontaminate equipment. Our facility is equipped to accommodate products up to 22’ long, 3’ deep and 8’ wide.

Value-Added Services

We are committed to providing in-house value-added services that cut down on transportation costs for our customers. These services include media blasting, masking, sealant application, light assembly and specialty boxing/packaging.

Exceeding Customer Expectations

We seek to build an inclusive, positive and safe work environment that continuously improves processes and consistently exceeds customers’ expectations.

What Our Customers Are Saying

"While refurbishing our manufacturing plant in Normal Illinois, we were in need of E-Coating services to build our prototype vehicles. Lippert provided this service for truck frames, battery frames, body closures and complete bodies. They manufactured their own tooling to allow our products to be coated within their facility. Lippert is a full production resource and whether we needed (1) piece/day or (10) pieces/day, the reply was always, ‘We’ve got you covered."

- New Model Launch Manager @ Rivian

"We met the team at Lippert upon winning a large contract to provide several weldments for the Medium Support Vehicle System upgrade to the Canadian Armed Forces. Part of the finishing details required that the parts be E-coated and we certainly had no experience previously in that field, let alone for a truck body 8’ wide and 22’ long. It was clear from the beginning that the Lippert team had the expertise and the willingness to work with the team from Craig to solve the E-Coating puzzle for our project."

- VP Canadian Manufacturing @ Craig Manufacturing

“Lippert has been a critical E-Coat supplier to us for many years now. The Lippert Team is a very experienced group that is always very responsive, knowledgeable and approaches everything with a sense of urgency – they consistently provide quality and service beyond our expectation and, most importantly, they always do what they say they do. We consider them not only a supplier, but a partner as well.”

Frequently Asked Questions

E-coating (electrocoating, electrodeposition) is a process used on parts requiring uniform paint films and high-end corrosion performance. A part is immersed in an e-coat paint tank. The paint particles in the e-coat paint tank are positively charged with electricity. The positively changed paint particles are driven and forced to a part that is grounded. The result is uniform paint thickness on the part. E-coating is an efficient process that offers even, comprehensive paint coverage and provides a long-lasting finish that can withstand harsh elements. E-coat is also an environmentally friendly process, using few-to-zero HAPS (Hazardous Air Pollutants), low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), and it is OSHA-, RoHS- and EPA-approved.
E-Coating is a “wet” system where the paint is wet when applied and wet before the curing of the paint. Powder coating is a “dry” paint system where the paint is dry when applied and dry before the curing of the paint.
Epoxy e-coat is a primer paint that provides excellent corrosion-resistant properties and promotes adhesion for top coats. Acrylic e-coat is a top coat paint that provides excellent corrosion-resistant properties.
CARC is a military paint that can only be used as directed by the United States government. CARC is part of a paint system where the CARC paint is the top coat paint and is, for the most part, either green or tan in color.
Lippert offers e-coating, powder coating, liquid paint and sealant applications to various industries.
Our e-coat line can process parts that are 53' long x 64' wide X 9.5' high with a 6,000-pound maximum part weight. Our powder coat line can process parts 24' long x 64' wide x 9.5' high.
Lippert can process any top coat color that the customer specifies. E-coat is always black.
Pickling is a dip operation, where ferrous metal parts are dipped into a heated acid bath. Pickling is used to remove rust, mill scale and laser scale.
Value-added services include masking before painting, application of sealants before or after coating processes, light assembly (installing wire harnesses) and specialty packaging of parts after painting processes.
We need the length, width and height of the part, weight of the part, surface square feet from CAD and a drawing in .DWG format.
