Community Collaboration Results in 95000 Pounds of Hurricane Relief Donations

Community Collaboration Results in 95000 Pounds of Hurricane Relief Donations

October 3, 2017

Elkhart, Ind. — Lippert Components, Inc. (LCI®) announces that five semi-trucks were loaded with disaster relief supplies and transported to areas of the United States impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. Volunteers from both LCI and the greater Elkhart community donated a total of 94,901 pounds of relief supplies.

LCI began collecting items for the hurricane disaster relief donation drive in late August 2017, inviting friends, family, and local community members to support the effort. Donations were collected through September 13, 2017, and on September 14, more than 60 volunteers helped organize and package the donations for transport to affected areas. When additional regions began to be affected by 2017’s Atlantic Hurricane Season, LCI quickly revised their donation drive to include areas hit by Hurricane’s Irma and Maria.

Five semi-trucks, totaling nearly 95,000 pounds, were loaded with items donated. Item totals included:

• 58,556 pounds of water
• 3,366 pounds of diapers
• 11,221 pounds of dog food
• 5,622 pounds of paper towel and toilet paper
• 2,450 pounds of hygiene products
• 7,962 pounds of clothing

“Lippert Components had no idea how the community would respond when we called on them to partner with us for hurricane relief items. We are humbled by their incredibly generous response. The drive started after Harvey and before Irma, thanks to the giving hearts of our team members and the community we were able to help victims from both hurricanes. To see everyone come together in a great time of need has been inspiring and energizing. Those who have suffered from the disasters will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers as they rebuild,” state Michilah Grimes, LCI’s Director of Philanthropic Partnerships.

LCI would like to thank the following businesses for their contributions to the Hurricane Disaster Relief Efforts: Norfolk Southern, Reilley Trucking, Walmart, Essen Haus, Granger Community Church, South Bend Community Re-entry Center, Jessie’s Warriors, Welch Packaging, City With a Heart Relief Team, Lochmandy Auto Group, South Bend Medical Foundation, The Medical Foundation, Kropf Logistics Group, Ply Gem Extrusion, Grey Wolf Transportation/Mox Warehouse, Feed The Hungry, and Goshen VFW.
